Yamaha Begins Hydrogen Car Road Test

Not only focusing on two-wheeled vehicles, Japanese automotive companies, Yamaha began conducting road tests on hydrogen cars on April 18.

As reported by the Japan Times on Monday (04/08/2019), a car named YG-M FC was created to be able to provide maximum service as an environmentally friendly vehicle. However, Yamaha is reluctant to express vehicle specifications clearly.

To ascertain the exact performance of the vehicle, trials will be carried out in the central lane of the city of Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, including scheduled routes as part of the city's new transportation system "WA-MO".

When compared to electric vehicles of the same size, hydrogen car prototypes are considered to have more advantages because they are able to travel longer distances.

In addition, hydrogen cars are claimed to have shorter refueling times and fewer vehicle checks.

This initiative is in line with the basic strategy of the Japanese Government in promoting the dissemination and installation of fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen stations.

This is also in line with the government's efforts to address social problems such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing long-distance environmentally friendly transportation.

In line with the promotion of 'Mobility Transformation' which is part of a long-term vision and a step towards a target of 50 percent reduction in CO2 emissions products and a 50 percent reduction in resource use in the environmental plan of 2050, this effort was finally carried out.

It is planned that Yamaha will display YG-M FC at the 2019 Automotive Engineering Exhibition in Yokohama starting on May 22.
